The Czech Sternberg Castle
The Czech Strenberg Castle is located about 23 km away from Benešov. Annually, it is visited by up to 150,000 visitors. It was founded by Zdeslav from the Divišovec family in 1241 and named “Sternberg” in accordance with the tradition of that time. It is remarkable and undoubtedly unique that the castle has remained in the ownership of the family of its former builder, Zdeslav of Sternberg.
The medieval structure of the early Gothic castle is hidden in the core of the current building which has been formed by several adaptations. The constructional developments range from late Gothic reconstructions aimed at improving the castle’s defence system to splendid early baroque adaptations of the interiors for the purposes of comfortable living.
For all visitors there have been available a parking area under the castle and a parking lot in the municipality of Czech Sternberg. The tour leads through fifteen richly furnished premises.
